718   banding.jpg

The image on the left shows evidence of banding and duplex grain sizes which is an anomalous topological condition.  When we undertake failure investigations, we will not only advise the client on the implication of the microstructure but will go further to explain how the deleterious feature was erroneously created.

Metallography Services UK offers routine microstructure examination and detailed reports for failure investigations. We attend to all requests and are glad to provide advice on how to etch various metallic samples if your own lab is unable to reveal microstructures.

The materials we commonly deal with are;

  • Carbon and low alloy steels

  • Austenitic stainless steels

  • Duplex stainless steels

  • Nickel alloys

  • Titanium alloys such as CPTi or Ti64

  • Copper alloys such as brass and cunifer

  • Zinc alloys

  • Coatings
